Aly Alexander, LICSW

My name is Aly, and I am licensed in the state of Nebraska as an independent clinical social worker. I hold a bachelors and masters degree in Social Work from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. I currently live in central Nebraska with my family and work full time as a high school Social Worker. I also sponsor the high school’s LGBT club to provide safe spaces and advocacy for vulnerable students. I have been working with children (birth-19) and families for 14 years, with 6 years of clinical experience. My specialty includes identifying trauma, attachment styles, and neurodivergence and the impact these areas have on a client’s current mental wellbeing. I also specialize in supporting and treating individuals who are ADHD and/or LGBTQIA2S. In addition to my professional experience, I serve on the Nebraska chapter board of directors for the National Association of Social Workers in support of Certified Social Workers across the state. Further, I serve in the Education Steerage Committee of the Nebraska Legal Action Fund. In my free time, I love to travel and explore new places with my family. I also enjoy cross stitching, solving puzzle games, playing with my cat and dog, and binge watching my favorite TV shows.

Supervision

As a dedicated and experienced supervisor for mental health clinicians, I offer a unique approach to supervision that embraces a strengths-based perspective through an ecological systems lens. I prioritize the development of positive relationships with my supervisees, recognizing their essential role in supporting growth and professional development. Additionally, I am deeply committed to social justice, advocacy work, and ethical practice, understanding that these principles are fundamental to providing holistic care for clients seeking treatment. By integrating evidence-based practices with a systemic perspective, I empower clinicians to explore complex issues and develop comprehensive solutions that address the broader context in which clients exist. Together, we will navigate the intricacies of the field, fostering personal and professional growth while ensuring the highest quality of care for clients.

Diagnosing

Overall wellbeing is based on many factors including genetics, generational trauma, attachment style, social and environmental issues, access to healthcare, and so much more. When working on a diagnosis, I find it important to thoroughly assess a client's symptomatology, their strengths, their culture, their interpersonal relationships, and the life experiences they have encountered. I then work to differentiate between various diagnoses to give clients the most accurate information about their current mental wellbeing. One thing I can guarantee when I meet with a client is that they will feel heard, understood, and valued.

Philosophy and Practice Style

  • One of my core values as a practitioner is to understand and empower an individual as a whole person, worthy of dignity and respect

Testimonials

  • Rebecca

Aly provided clinical supervision for me for a year while I finished my licensing requirements. I valued our time of discussion and learning. During this time, Aly and I discussed difficult cases, ethical dilemmas, and self-care. She was always nice, respectful, and professional and I highly recommend working with her.

  • Rita

Having moved to Nebraska from a different state and not having had any knowledge of Nebraska laws/policies, it was a true blessing to have been matched with her to be my clinical supervisor. She was the right person for me to succeed in receiving my LCSW. She encouraged and cheered me on every step of my clinical journey.

    -Rita H., LCSW

  • Chris

I first started supervision in a mess. Aly helped me to navigate and organize the problems and encouraged me to follow through with solutions even when I doubted myself. She helped me to see things from a better perspective and I honestly would not have gotten through the supervision process without her. I appreciated that she always lifted Me up when I doubted myself. I gained a ton from clinical supervision but what stood out the most was the direction that she provided that helped me to become a confident provider.

  • Sam

Aly has supervised me for 3 years through my undergraduate practicum in 2020 (bonus points to her for doing this during a pandemic) and now during my provisional mental health licensure. While under her guidance, I have grown tremendously as a practitioner and a person. She is knowledgeable in numerous areas and has always provided honest and constructive feedback to help me challenge myself and my skills. Along with providing crucial feedback, Aly is always willing to help problem solve solutions and meet me at the level in which I need to learn. I would not be the practitioner I am today without her guidance and supervision.
